Canopy Homes: Style Meets Home in Houston, Texas

When Alisa of @style_meetshome decided it was time to renovate her Houston home, she wasn’t chasing trends—she was chasing timeless. As a mom of four with another baby on the way, a creative eye and a deep love for mixing old and new, she knew the foundation of her home had to work just as hard as her family does.

That’s where Heirloom Oak came in. And not just in one room, we’re talking wall-to-wall, throughout the entire home. (Yes, even the bathrooms.)

Welcome to this Canopy Home.

A Style That Evolves (Without Starting Over)

If Alisa had to sum up her style, it would be French country meets modern organic, a blend of warmth, character, and clean lines that feels inviting without feeling overdone.

“One of the things I love to incorporate in design is something new and something old,” she says. “It keeps the character and makes a home feel cozy.”

That philosophy shows up everywhere, from antique marketplace finds to thoughtful updates that make everyday life easier. Her goal wasn’t perfection. It was a home that feels lived-in, loved, and flexible enough to grow alongside her family.

Why Heirloom Oak Was the Right Fit

Choosing flooring for an entire home is no small decision. For Alisa, it had to check a few non-negotiable boxes: timeless, neutral, and adaptable.

“I was looking for something that would work with my ever-changing home,” she explains. “It felt like the perfect neutral, not too warm, not too cool.”

That balance is exactly why Heirloom Oak works so well across different spaces. It pulls warm or cool depending on the room, the light, and the surrounding materials making it easy to style now and later.

Designed for Real Life (and Real Messes)

Looks matter—but so does livability. With kids, comfort and durability were just as important as aesthetics.

“The core on these floors is night and day different from what we had before,” Alisa shares. “You can instantly feel the difference in comfort.”

And yes, these floors are officially family-approved.

“They’re durable, they’re pretty, and I don’t have to worry about scratching them,” she says.

One of the biggest game changers? Water resistance.

“We were able to install them underneath our bathtub,” Alisa notes. “It makes everything feel cohesive, easy to clean, and I don’t panic if the kids spill water. It really just makes the whole space feel more open and calm.”

Favorite Spaces + Thoughtful Details

Some of Alisa’s favorite moments in the home aren’t brand-new they’re storied.

Her breakfast nook, where a family of five gathers daily, features a solid marble table she scored on Facebook Marketplace. Nearby, a hard rock maple butcher block adds charm and history to the kitchen.

“With the new floors, incorporating something timeless and old just brings so much character,” she says.

It’s a perfect example of how a neutral foundation lets meaningful pieces shine without competing for attention.

Renovation Advice We Fully Agree With

When asked what advice she’d give to anyone tackling a home update, Alisa keeps it simple (and smart):

“Stay true to who you are. And when picking out floors, pick something timeless.”

We couldn’t have said it better.

She’s also learned the value of investing in the bones of a home, things like flooring and paint, because they quietly impact every single design decision that follows. A Home That Feels Like a Hug

Over the years, Alisa’s style has evolved into something more intentional and grounded.

“I’ve moved away from non-lasting trends and focused on creating a home that feels warm, organic, and cozy like a big hug when you walk through the door.”

Right now, her favorite space is the primary bedroom and bathroom, a fully renovated retreat designed for rest and reset. From the wood-look stairs to the seamless flow of flooring throughout, every choice supports both beauty and function.

And honestly? That’s what makes this Canopy Home special.
