Canopy Home: The Notting Home in Bluffton, South Carolina
Updated on: April 1, 2026
When Allie Nottingham of @TheNottingHome set out to reimagine the interior of her timeless home, she wasn’t looking for a dramatic departure—she was looking for harmony. The kind that blends warm traditional design with layered textures, natural stone, and thoughtfully curated spaces from a moody, Ralph Lauren-inspired office to a spa-like primary bath finished with limestone and oversized slabs.

Underfoot, our Comfort Enhanced 12mm luxury vinyl plank in Fireside Oak anchors it all, delivering the durability her family needs with the warmth and texture her design vision called for.

Traditional Warmth Meets Moody Elegance: Inside Allie Nottingham's Timeless Renovation
When I sat down with Allie Nottingham of The Notting Home, what struck me most wasn’t a specific finish or fixture, it was her clarity.
She wasn’t renovating to chase trends. She was honoring her home.
“The exterior of our home is very timeless,” she told me. “I wanted to bring that warmth to the inside.”
And that intention is felt in every single room.
From the off-white cabinetry to the warm oak tones, layered walnuts, and thoughtfully curated textures, her home feels welcoming in the truest sense. It’s traditional without feeling dated. Elevated without feeling untouchable. Personal without being chaotic.
It feels lived in—and loved.

A Moody Office with Classic Character
If I’m being honest, her office might be my favorite room of the entire remodel.
It leans into a Ralph Lauren aesthetic with a subtle equestrian influence by featuring rich leather seating, dark cabinetry, tailored details, and a deep, moody wall color that color-drenches the trim and windows. It’s dramatic but refined.
This is exactly where interiors have been heading toward richer color palettes, more personality, more story. Homes that feel collected instead of copied and blanketed all white.
And what grounds all of that richness? A warm but neutral oak luxury vinyl flooring that keeps the room from feeling heavy. The balance is intentional. The depth feels curated.
This is an office I could quite literally live in.
Designing for Real Life First
One of the things I admire most about Allie’s process is how practical it is.
“My advice is to choose functionality over everything else,” she shared. “Find what works for your family first…your kids, your pets…and then layer in the aesthetics that bring you joy.”
It’s refreshing advice in a world of endless inspiration feeds.
Instead of over-consuming ideas, she recommends choosing one strong anchor such as a paint color, a rug, a sofa and building from there. In her home, she often starts with a neutral base and then layers in texture through wood tones, textiles, and stone.
That approach is why her home feels cohesive instead of overwhelmed.
Natural Materials & European Influence
Another design direction she’s especially excited about? Natural materials.
“The use of stone,” she said. “Bringing the outside in…I love that trend.”
She used Venice limestone on her fireplace and carried stone into her primary bath in a way I’ve honestly never seen before. The shower was carefully mapped so the water stream would never directly saturate the upper stone wall preserving both beauty and longevity. A year later, it still looks incredible.
The lower half of the shower features oversized porcelain slabs and a coordinating floor, creating a spa-like atmosphere that feels distinctly old world. European meets organic modern.

In the kitchen, Taj Mahal quartzite countertops pair beautifully with unlacquered brass fixtures; materials that patina, age, and tell a story over time.

Upstairs, wallpapered children’s rooms bring personality and charm, while downstairs, a moody green powder bath echoes the office and primary bedroom, tying the richer tones together intentionally.

What I love most is the contrast she created. In the heart of the home, kitchen and main living areas remains light, bright, and airy. The more intimate spaces lean darker and more saturated. It creates intrigue. Movement. Dimension.

The Foundation That Ties It All Together
While the textures, stone, and cabinetry carry so much character, the flooring quietly does some of the heaviest lifting in the home.
Allie chose our Canopy Comfort Enhanced 12mm luxury vinyl plank in Fireside Oak, and it truly anchors every space from the light-filled kitchen to the moody office.
“The thickness is out of this world,” she told me. “The cork backing is really what sold us. It’s antimicrobial and much stronger than foam.”
For families looking for durable flooring for pets and kids, those details matter. The ½-inch thickness provides stability and comfort underfoot, while the cork backing adds resilience and sound absorption. And the wood-grain texture doesn’t just look like hardwood, it genuinely feels like it.
“It’s durable enough for our family and pets,” she said, “but still brings a soft, elegant warmth to every space.”
And that’s exactly what it does. It makes the entire home feel cohesive, brighter, cleaner, and grounded.
It’s the kind of flooring that supports real life while still honoring timeless design.

Where to Splurge (and Where to Save)
Allie is thoughtful about investment pieces.
“I splurge on something that I know will be a staple,” she shared. “Something I’d take with me if we moved.”
Think statement lighting. A beautiful counter table. Architectural elements that anchor a room.
Then she saves on decor like pillows, seasonal styling, smaller accessories that can evolve.
If you’re refreshing your home on a budget, her top three updates are beautifully simple:
- Change your paint color
- Update your hardware
- Declutter
“It sounds silly,” she laughed, “but sometimes less is more.”
And she’s right. Removing excess can instantly make a space feel larger, cleaner, and more current.
A Home That Feels Intentional
Allie’s renovation is a reminder that timeless design isn’t about playing it safe, it’s about being clear.
Clear on what fits your life.
Clear on what materials will stand the test of time.
Clear on how you want your home to feel when you walk through the door.
From limestone fireplaces and Taj Mahal quartzite to cork-backed luxury vinyl plank flooring that balances beauty and durability, every decision in her home feels intentional.
And that’s what makes it unforgettable.
